It’s hard to believe we’re into September and less than three weeks away from the GlowDOGGlow 5K and 1-mile fun run!
If you’ve been training with us since the beginning of our plan, congratulate yourself. You’ve made it through five weeks of increasing intervals in the peak heat of summer. You may have even hit that 3.1 mile (5K) distance goal in your 35-40 minute sessions.
Up until this point, the longest running time has been about 10 minutes or an approximate distance of 1-mile, broken up by light jogging and sprints. Whether you realized it or not, the short bursts of intervals have helped increase your stamina by improving cardiovascular capacity.
You and your pooch are now conditioned for logner distance runs. Our last three training weeks will focus on distance running so you can comfortably and confidently run 3.5-4.0 miles with ease.
In Week 6, we’ll take on three 35-minute sessions with intervals averaging around 15 minutes. At a comfortable jog or run, you should be able to complete 1.5 miles in each interval and about 3 miles during each session.
